Biography

Lauren Barrison, M.D., is board eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN). She is originally from Philadelphia, PA. She earned her undergraduate and medical degrees at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. From there, she completed her residency in OB/GYN at Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.   

During her residency, she was involved in research, presenting at national conferences such as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Congress and Expo and Society for Reproductive Investigation (SRI). Dr. Barrison has served in leadership roles in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Before joining SGF, Dr. Barrison worked as an OB hospitalist at a DC community hospital. 
 
Dedicated to helping empower patients and uplifting communities through their reproductive health, Dr. Barrison provides patient care at SGF’s Wexford, Pennsylvania, location. Dr. Barrison enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time outdoors.

Q&A

I have had a long-standing interest in reproductive medicine. In fact, I entered medical school already certain that I wanted to specialize in Obstetrics & Gynecology. What drew me to the field of Obstetrics & Gynecology was the ability to help empower patients and uplift communities through their reproductive health. I was inspired by the close relationships reproductive health providers and their patients build, and I have fostered this special connection with my patients since first becoming a physician. I became interested in fertility when I realized that the field involves not only scientific/medical aspects that excite me, but also unique patient relationships, research, and advocacy.

Traveling has always been important to me and my family. I love cooking, especially adapting recipes to be vegetarian/vegan (my husband is vegan, but I love cheese too much to commit). Spending time outdoors, whether hiking, jogging, biking, or long walks through the city, always invigorates me. I can’t help but sing along to musical theater (my favorites include Rent, Mamma Mia, and Wicked).

While in most aspects of my life I do not take risks, I do tend to be an adventure seeker while traveling; I’ve hang glided off a mountain in Wyoming, swam with sharks in the Galapagos, rode up a mountain on the back of a stranger’s motorbike in Colombia, hiked an active volcano in Nicaragua, and more. While I often feel nervous initially, it’s always worth it!
